Great game honestly, don't have anything bad to say except how corruption can be so annoying sometimes, I get that without corruption the game is way too easy but maybe nerf it a bit? because like if u get all the corruption making or corrupted characters you get so many corruptions and its so hard to make a decision who to execute, One thing i like very much though is that you made it deal extra damage to kill a corrupted knight. Overall I love this game so much already got like 60 hours on it :sob:
SO: I adore this game, and I love everything about it. A Critique: Corruption is excessively hard to place when you have multiple cards causing it. booka, poisoner, and drunk for example. on the worst ratio, you have 6 liars on board out of (probably) 10. at best, you might have 4, but you're CONSTANTLY double guessing the information you're given.
If it's possible, can we make it where "If 2+ characters that cause corruption are in the deck, a mandatory good alchemist is a part of it, too? (mandatory good as in it won't secretly be a drunk or some liar of an evil character) just so you don't have 60% Lies vs 40% minimal hints. I should have screenshot the game, but I didn't think about it until seeing Olexa on YTube playing this and getting re-aggravated by the corruption mechanic.
I don't understand why I can't just murder the entire village, say "the evil were using them as human shields" and win. It works for the US an their ally...
there is 1 evil left, who's ability does not affect the information in the image. both enlightened are telling the truth. with just this information it is possible to figure out the answer. who is the evil? answer is in the comments
Never mind, I looked again at the roles, and this is a possible scenario. Baker is a difficult role, the fact is turns other villagers into baker and removes their past ability should make it an outcast on its own honestly.
Weird. Confessor should be dizzy if Alchemist was too far away. Origionally Doppelganger? Unaffected by Pooka and not considered Evil, so will Claim "Good"
Honestly, the Baker effect should only go off once, imo. I had a game with 5 bakers on board because the original changed others, and Baa thought that would be a great hiding spot
every loss i have had since my 3rd has been because of baker im gonna go die now (edit this is no longer the case but i lost 5 games in a row to bakers)
Poisoner didnt corrupt itself, evil cant be corrupted, confessor reads i am dizzy if corrupted or evil, they were evil, not corrupted. Poisoner corrupted the slayer, but alchemist cured him
I really liked the game. But is it possible to reword "X card away from X" to "there are X cards between X and X". I think it would make it less confusing.
any chance of the itch.io version being updated this week? I've been loving the steam demo but I'm on holiday so playing it on mobile instead and missing the steam version upgrades badly!
Ok im confused on a thing why does the alchemist says no one was cured of corruption if the drunk is corrupted and its 2 spaces away from Alchemist. Alchemist even says he cures 2 villagers to the right and left. Does it mean Alchemist only cures the adjacent villagers to him or not?
This just happened to me as well. Except, the oracle told me that 7 or 10 is a witch (10 being a 'wretch'), but the 3 was the witch. And the oracle wasn't corrupted or anything
Sounds about right, since Oracle has to name a specific role when identifying evil. And since it sees Wretch as evil, they made something up, even if they arent corrupted.
super cool interpretation of social deduction board games for a single player. like it a lot. would love to see some sort of co-op mode with something like a voting system. could be really fun with friends
What does add a fake outcast to the deck do? Does it just add another outcast card that won't be used? I am a little confused about the point to Baa's ability.
This doesn’t load for me on mobile and I cannot figure out why. I don’t know if anyone else has had this issue but creating some sort of mobile friendly version would be super helpful!
Hello, really enjoying the game. Corruption really starts to mess with things. It's great.
One comment though: I think feedback from the Slayer can lead to a bit of confusion.
I had a minion poet say #3 is evil, used a slayer to kill #3 who stated #3 is not evil. But the slayer was also a minion and it feels like he's telling the truth. It's only going to catch the player out once, but still. Maybe "Slayer refused to kill x"?
this was so fun!! Although I didn't know that the fewer cards I flipped the more scores I got... I did get to 12 without dying but I flipped all the cards I could possibly flip haha

I enjoyed it and wishlisted it on steam. I'm looking forward to the release.
I don't understand why I can't just murder the entire village, say "the evil were using them as human shields" and win. It works for the US an their ally...
huh, medium can tell somethings a doppelgänger, cool
there is 1 evil left, who's ability does not affect the information in the image. both enlightened are telling the truth. with just this information it is possible to figure out the answer. who is the evil? answer is in the comments
the answer is in view rest
4 bakers and multiple of them claim to be the original, and none of them turn out to be evil. Is this even possible or a bug?

Never mind, I looked again at the roles, and this is a possible scenario. Baker is a difficult role, the fact is turns other villagers into baker and removes their past ability should make it an outcast on its own honestly.
Nah, it's nothing that convoluted. They got duplicated by the Shaman.
wait bakers dont claim what they were/if they were the origin for me
how did you make them do that please tell me i keep losing to bakers
I was playing the steam version of the game, I'm not sure if it's any different from the itch version
aw dangit was hoping there was a way to turn that on
confessor lying?
Probably cured by the Alchemist?
yeah there was an alch 2 spaces away
wait that alch said 0 cured
Weird. Confessor should be dizzy if Alchemist was too far away. Origionally Doppelganger? Unaffected by Pooka and not considered Evil, so will Claim "Good"
view rest contains the answer
hunter-gatherer societies
4 hunters and a slayer
ngl bakers should be an evil character, they make the game SOOOOOOO much harder.
Maybe baker turns the characters evil, too. So they can be attacked.
nah make them outcasts
Honestly, the Baker effect should only go off once, imo. I had a game with 5 bakers on board because the original changed others, and Baa thought that would be a great hiding spot
Yeah the issue with Baker is it REMOVES information from the board. so now all the evils can just chill there and you lose.
baa needs a buff he does NOTHING
why are bakers so useless
every loss i have had since my 3rd has been because of baker im gonna go die now (edit this is no longer the case but i lost 5 games in a row to bakers)
OMG give me this game right now! Please tell me there will be a switch or mobile release! PLEASE! Mimic Logic said nay. Heed my call.
there is 1 outcast my butt both the wretch and bombard are real
The counsellor adds a outcast.
i know but i forgot about him so he doesn't count
was watching this game on youtube and then found this game im so happy
who didn't
i wasnt searching for the game i just stumbled across it shortly after stumbling across it on youtube
that's.. exactly what i just said
How is Oracle still a good villager when neither #6 nor #8 is a Shaman?
The wretch can register as a random specific evil role
CORRUPTED KNIGHT CAN DIE???
yup! corruption makes knights immortality ability not work.
basically how corruption affects most villagers anyways.
there goes my strategy of instantaneously stabbing any knight i come across
No, the strat still works... Just be careful if you see a pooka... or a drunk... or plague doctor.. you catch the drift
realistically there's at least one of these in any game
JACKPOT

(i then used judge on the jester and he was NOT lying)
You want to talk about jackpots?
4 / 4 evils in three abilities
(2, 1, 8, and 9 were all evil)
was 7 puppet
no i meant 8
i told the fake slayer to use his ability on himself and they just flat out said "no i'm safe"
Poisoner can poison itself, get cured by Alchemist, then bluff as a Confessor,
resulting in it still saying "I am Dizzy"
Is it a glitch that Poisoner can poison itself? I had assumed the Confessor showed the Poisoner was adjacent, but no, it was the Poisoner itself.
Poisoner didnt corrupt itself, evil cant be corrupted, confessor reads i am dizzy if corrupted or evil, they were evil, not corrupted. Poisoner corrupted the slayer, but alchemist cured him
8 cured the corruption on 1 not 2. 2 was forced to say i am dizzy as evil. Evils CANNOT BE CURED of corruption
I really liked the game. But is it possible to reword "X card away from X" to "there are X cards between X and X". I think it would make it less confusing.
Agreed.
That would make it so much more confusing...
any chance of the itch.io version being updated this week? I've been loving the steam demo but I'm on holiday so playing it on mobile instead and missing the steam version upgrades badly!
I tested the demo, there is a problem with knitter the evil version can tell the truth...
There's an outcast that shows up as a random evil minion to other characters, you probably had one next to another evil character.
nah pretty sure she was evil i checked with the oracle, there was no doppleganger in this game
I had the same thing happen to me.
My theory is that since there were 2 groups of adjancent enemies, it got confused about which one they should be describing.
So while their statement would be a lie when describing one group, it will be the thruth when describing the other.
Short story: be wary of Knitter statements.
doppleganger isn't the one that shows up as evil its wretch
ii realllyyy really want this available for mac on steam, is that gonna be a possibility in the future?
The Alchemist doesn’t cure the Drunk because it’s an outcast, not villager.
Drunk can't be cured regardless, is part of its effect
The Alchemist can cure outcasts
How is he curing outcasts if nobody can corrupt outcasts?
Excuse me, wut? I get that Wretch shows up as evil, but it shouldn't show up specifically as Counsellor!
This just happened to me as well. Except, the oracle told me that 7 or 10 is a witch (10 being a 'wretch'), but the 3 was the witch. And the oracle wasn't corrupted or anything
The wretch shows up as a random minion.
Sounds about right, since Oracle has to name a specific role when identifying evil. And since it sees Wretch as evil, they made something up, even if they arent corrupted.
Its a quirk of that class design.
I can't believe somebody turned BotC into a singleplayer roguelike, what the frick. This is amazing.
super cool interpretation of social deduction board games for a single player. like it a lot. would love to see some sort of co-op mode with something like a voting system. could be really fun with friends
um i think you are talking about town of salem
why did the druid tell me there were no outcasts among 7, 5, and 4? isn't wretch an outcast? so why did it lie? is it randomly corrupted or something?
Wretch registers as random evil card to other cards, so druid thought it was an evil card not an outcast
How do I mark the cards in the itch.io version of the game? Or that's only for Steam?
Thats only for steam right now. I should update the game at the end of the week.
plague Doc.
Will this version of the game be updated to be the same as the steam version? Currently I'm running on mac and can't download the steam version.
yes, I plan to update it soon. Maybe like at the end of the week~
What does add a fake outcast to the deck do? Does it just add another outcast card that won't be used? I am a little confused about the point to Baa's ability.
Really cool game! One quick question, do evils always bluff as villagers or can they also bluff as outcasts?
Can bluff as Outcasts, but its rare right now unfortunately :/. Will be updating that
Extremely rare. I played 100+ villages on steam and it never happened. The Bombardier is basically a pointless role because it is never an evil
Are you sure ?

Yes, but there was an update on July 31st that made outcast disguises more common (should be 20% of the time now).
This doesn’t load for me on mobile and I cannot figure out why. I don’t know if anyone else has had this issue but creating some sort of mobile friendly version would be super helpful!
Which browser are you using? On Firefox the game wouldn't fit my phone screen (the game was too big) but on Chrome it works fine.
I have the same problem. I tried on different phones and browsers, but it still doesn’t load.
Actually, the Counsellor IS lying; if it were telling it the truth, it would ping off the Wretch and say it was 2 away from evil.
Hello, really enjoying the game. Corruption really starts to mess with things. It's great.
One comment though:
I think feedback from the Slayer can lead to a bit of confusion.
I had a minion poet say #3 is evil, used a slayer to kill #3 who stated #3 is not evil. But the slayer was also a minion and it feels like he's telling the truth. It's only going to catch the player out once, but still. Maybe "Slayer refused to kill x"?
Yes, you are right, in new version he will be saying either 'I couldn't kill x' or 'x dodged my attack' (which still can work well as a lie)
this was so fun!! Although I didn't know that the fewer cards I flipped the more scores I got... I did get to 12 without dying but I flipped all the cards I could possibly flip haha
